THE STORY OF THE PINEWOOD GUESTHOUSE
After exploring healthy living and sustainable, ecological building together with our architect Richard Sirén, we decided to build a four bedroom Guesthouse. The house is built in the centre of nature, using healthy, mainly Finnish building materials, that are natural and chemical-free, as well as employing local and nearby businesses.
The framework of the house is a Finnish innovation called Aalto Haitek Wave Layered Timber (WLT), and as insulation we use straw and Ehta wood shavings insulation. The floor and ceiling surfaces are of clay. The heating system makes use of our own invention of compost heat from horse manure. The surrounding forest has been protected by building the house on a bore pole foundation - this also preserves the environment so that when you step out of the house, the forest is right there on your doorstep.
Our love of nature and the important values of sustainability and ecological living are combined in this beautiful Guesthouse. We have received interest in the house from all over the world. This is the first house of this kind ever built.
We offer healthy accommodation, courses and other activities where you can enjoy the relaxing power of nature and experience healthy living. The Pinewood Guesthouse embodies our principal values of sustainability and love for the environment.
The project was filmed and released in a video series showing you how everything is done. You can watch all the videos on Youtube.
